I bought the Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffee maker a month and a half ago, and have no complaints thus far. I use the thing almost every day.

Time involvement:
I am a college student and part time employee who wakes up a different time each morning of the week, and I also like to drink tea sometimes instead of coffee. Mostly I brew coffee in the morning, but sometimes I like to see if I can go all day without a caffeine dependence, only to find I need to brew a cup late in the evening to finish my day's responsibilities. So far, this coffee maker has fit very well into my irregular coffee drinking schedule. It brews all four cups in about 5 minutes, and it only takes a few minutes to place in a filter, add coffee grounds, brew, then rinse the carafe and removable coffee filter basket. On days when I'm racing out the door, taking the small amount of time to prepare my coffee doesn't impede my rush.

We all know that too much coffee is terrible for the body in several ways. So, instead of using the 12-cup coffee maker, we decided to go with a smaller one - to force me to drink less coffee. I love this product for a number of reasons.

Pros:
- Perfect size for a single coffee drinker.
- Timer is great. Every other 4-cup maker that I found were switch based without a timer setting. Timer settings are really helpful when you want to just get your coffee and go.
- Easy to clean. This product has a removeable filter cup for easy cleaning. Also, the auto-pause in brewing is helpful to both allow for quick removal and less spilling.

Cons:
- It takes a little longer to brew 4 cups with this maker as it does in a larger maker. This may simply be due to the size of the product.

09/02/2010 - Two year follow-up and the DRX5 is still working great. The clock gains maybe a minute per year if that. This is the best small coffee maker I've ever owned and has led to several other people in my office purchasing like model.

09/07/2008 - I've been using my Mr. Coffee DRX5 coffee maker for eight months now and I really like it. I wanted a small coffee maker for my desk at work and this one has really fit the bill. It has a very small footprint so it works great on my desk, it has not leaked a drop which is also good, and it makes pretty good coffee. (I use a heaping 2 tablespoon scoop for four cups.) I chose the black color so it doesn't show the stains. The unit has a removable filter basket so I don't spill grounds when emptying and the water level sight "glass" (which is plastic) is really handy since I fill it out of a water bottle rather than using the carafe. We were worried about purchasing this product after reading the previous review about the lukewarm results. However, we had read so many other reviews of similar machines that we thought it could easily have been user error. When we bought the machine, we actually read the manual very carefully before doing anything. (Not our typical style :) We followed the instructions. We did more than the minimum 5 recommended times of running the machine using water only; it needed about 10 times of this to get really hot -- but only on the first time out of the box. The espresso itself can be pretty good, but probably only for a casual espresso drinker. Even for casual sippers such as ourselves, it is easy to pull a shot that is completely undrinkable. (Actually, my husband is less discerning, so we feed him the "bad" shots.) I know what a beautiful espresso tastes like since I work next to a famous Illy shop in DC, and this espresso is, sadly, not the same. But, it is still very wonderful and... Read more

Purchased to fit the look and size of my small European kitchen, I use it with the little Deca Premium pads easily available here in Belgium for a reasonable price. Haven't yet tried tamping my own cup with ready-made, or grinding & using my own beans, but when I do, it'll be Illy or Lavazza, or Douwe Eggberts coffee, that I try. The coffee itself, and fineness of the grind, is 9/10ths of the equation when it comes to filter coffee or espresso, in my opinion.

Haven't had a bad cup yet using the Deca pads, and the temp has been just fine, every time, so no reason to go crazy trying everything under the sun. Around the corner, there are 8 caffes I can use for that, anyway! What I wanted was a way to get my caffiene fix, quick, here at home, without needing a degree in avionics or engineering to learn the ins and outs of the machine.

I fell in love with this machine--both its looks and its espresso quality--after being introduced to it by a DeLonghi employee in a department store. He pulled a great shot for me in the store: dark, rich taste, very hot, with a lot of crema, and for the past week I've had similarly great results at home. I was leery buying this machine after reading the Amazon reviews, but I took a risk and I couldn't be happier.

Lukewarm shots seem to be a common complaint for machines like this. They happen for a variety of reasons, but this 15-bar pump definitely produces all the heat you need. Problems occur, rather, when the filter (the scoop-like handle) and your espresso cups aren't hot enough. First, run the machine with just water at least once before you make a shot, every time. I also run the filter and my cup(s) under hot water just before using, and as a result my coffee both tastes rich and is very hot. You also, without a doubt, need coffee that's been ground with an... we've had an S9 Jura for over 7 years and made over 6,000 coffees with it. It was a trooper and fantastic but sadly died on us so we wanted a replacement. I checked the specs for the S9 and C9 and seemed they were pretty much the same so for the price difference it felt living with a black and slimmer model with slightly less horsepower was a sensible trade-off.

The good;

1. Quiet
2. Small
3. Makes a nice cup of coffee (if administered well)
4. Button layout and customization is way easier than the old S9

The Bad

1. Black is not as attractive as the silver and also shows marks easier
2. Water filters are different sizes to the S9 (had a stock so that's a little annoying)
3. All the essentials feel twice as small as the S9 and a pain.. the milk container cannot even support two Lattes, the water container is too small and the coffee store is also.

I purchased this recently after I returned my unreliable Saeco V'spresso model. This machine has been much more reliable and makes excellent quality espresso/cappuccino with the push of a button. My favorite feature is the frothing system that allows it possible to make a cappuccino without moving the cup. It is much quicker than the traditional steam wand for lazy people like myself. Jura-Capresso seems to have much better customer service and warranties than its competitors as an added bonus.

This is my second fully automatic espresso maker. The first one was a Jura Espresso E8. They seem to have a life span of about 5 years with very frequent use -- probably 10-15 single cups a day.

The Jura-Capresso espresso maker only needs you to feed it with water and espresso beans and empty out the grounds drawer every once in a while. It does every single other thing. At the touch of a button, it grinds the beans to the perfect texture, tamps it to perfection, and brews espresso exactly. Finding espresso beans is always interesting. Right now, my favorite are from a small roaster called Ancora in Wisconsin. This espresso maker prefers beans that are not too dark and oily and never likes flavored beans. French Roasts are good, as are Columbian, for a rich flavor. Lavazza beans are good for everyday use. My only complaint? The espresso is just a little too perfect.
